Japanese Anime Tsubasa Volume 7

Tsubasa Volume 7

Full Text

Story- Syaoran, Sakura, Fai, Kurogane, and Mokona are at it again. They’ve landed themselves in a new world, one that seems very futuristic, and end up entering a race. They aren’t racing just for fun though, the grand prize is Sakura’s feather. But there’s a catch, they have to learn to race in flying vehicles while someone has it in for them, creating disasters at every turn. When they first arrived in this world, Sakura was spotted by a young woman named Tomoyo and asked to take the place of honor in the race.  She decided that Sakura would be a good face for the race and even made her a racing outfit.  After an almost deadly final race, Sakura ends up winning her feather and yet another memory back!  But that’s not all that happens in this episode.  Our travelers leave this world in search of more feathers and find themselves in the middle of an ocean.  Luckily they are rescued by a ship that is passing by.  While on the ship, Syaoran meets a young boy named Fujitaka that greatly resembles his father.  They start working together in the engine room and become good friends.  One day though, a rough storm hits them and throws Syaoran and Fujitaka are thrown over board. They land on a small deserted island that the natives of the land refuse to step foot on.  The stories say that there are ghosts that haunt the island and that is what cases the strange howling sound that can be heard.  While they are on the island though they discover some old ruins of people that used to inhabit it.  Syaoran is able to decipher some of the old runes and he finds their way to the side of the island where the others are looking for them (from their boat, of course).  Sakura, Kurogane, and Fai are not ones to just leave a friend stranded so they attempt to row ashore to save them. But while they are crossing the last few yard to shore a giant water monster attacks them! Will our friends make it out unscathed?

Presentation- The costumes and worlds encounter in this series never cease to amaze me.  The amount of imagination needed to create just one world is incredible, yet here they are, creating world after world full of awesome landscapes, architectures, and cultures.  The clothing also is unique to each world and is always detailed and fathomable.  The clothes jive with the region in such a way that I wonder how they think them up.

Extras- Included on this DVD is the Character Guide, which gives the viewer a brief overview of the already known characters and an in-depth look at the ones they are to meet in the episodes to follow.  This comes in handy when determining whether a new character is trying to help or hinder Syaoran and his friends. Also on this DVD is a World Guide, similar to the character guide but it doesn’t go over the previous worlds that have already been encountered. And finally in Extras we have Textless Songs and Trailers, featuring previews from One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, Ghost Hunt, Dragon Ball GT, Yu Yu Hakusho, Case Closed, Tsubasa, and Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles.

This series just keeps getting better and better, with the plot thickening and becoming more intricate over time. I am eager to find out how the series will end although I don’t want that time to come! The characters get more lovable by the episode, even grumpy Kurogane, and each episode is laced with battle, romance, and suspense!

The Film/Show This is not one of my favorite volumes, but it is still far better than many animes I have seen.
Presentation The amount of detail and time that goes into every world creation is astounding!
Extra Features They are always helpful when encountering new worlds and characters, and when needing to find more great anime to watch!
