My complaints are negligible; Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is my childhood on a disc. True, we've seen a half dozen Sonic collections before and a fair number of these titles haven't aged so well, but this is, without a doubt, the best yet roundup from the better parts of Sega's 16-bit library. Indulge in Vectorman and Kid Chameleon, stick around for Dynamite Headdy and Ristar, kick some ass in Streets of Rage 3, challenge Final Fantasy with Phantasy Star, and remind yourself of how GOOD Sonic used to be with his 2D masterpieces. You'll stick around for a while.
Videogames
| Gameplay | Loaded with Beat Em Up's RPG's, and Platformers with both quantity and quality. There are some duds, sure, and some titles aren't for everyone, but the inclusion of some of the best platformers ever made makes up for some of the stinkers. |
| Presentation | Great interface for a compilation and some cool interviews, but it seems like they could have a dug a little deeper for some more artwork and random (from Wikipedia!?) trivia. |
| Value | A few glaring omissions, but $30 is a good price, especially when you consider well over half of these are available on Wii's Virtual Console for far more. Props to Sega for once again doing what Nintendon't. |
| Fun Factor | You get what you put in. This collection is for Genesis kids like myself (who may enjoy basking in nostalgia), or people who never owned a Genesis and may be curious about what they missed. Anyone who grew up with Playstation or N64 may wonder what all the fuss is about, but those who are able to appreciate classic gaming will have few complaints. |
