It's hard not to like Ratchet and Clank. Since reviewing Size Matters last year, I've not only played through every game in the series, but have actually taken the time to pick up every titanium bolt, (almost!) every skill point, and run through each title again in challenge mode. Hell, Tools of Destruction was my most anticipated game amidst Halo 3, Mass Effect, Mario Galaxy, and CoD 4 last fall. Yet, despite a hapless fanboy adoration of Ratchet's platform/shooter gameplay, even I had to admit the formula was getting a little stale. Oh sure, ToD was the most gorgeous game I had ever laid eyes on, but, for all intents and purposes, the gameplay was a further refined version of an already streamlined system. It was perfectly fine, functional, and, most importantly, a great deal of fun - but the jump in visuals and animation was leaps and bounds ahead of the innovation in the gameplay department.

Ratchet & Clank have come a long way, with four adventures behind them on the PS2 and one on the PS3 and PSP. The PSP game, aptly named Size Matters, came out in early 2007 but has only recently been ported to the PS2. I'm not sure why it's been ported so late, and more importantly so poorly, but this one is best played as it was intended, on the PSP.
