Red Fly Studios, developers of the well-received Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars for Wii, have released their second title in Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Published by Atari, this third person action adventure has gamers teaming up with the original Ghostbusters crew in an attempt to thwart the plans of a diabolical architect who intends to destroy the earth by building right over top of it.

Having been lucky enough to be born in the 70s, I had a great opportunity to experience the 80s at its finest. I remember going to all the Star Wars (even the first -- I was young) and I especially remember going to see Ghostbusters when it first hit the theatrical scene; we won't talk about the sequel in any shape or fashion. Let's forget the second part even happened.
Anyway, the movie was huge! It had an amusing story, with a touch of horror, but more importantly it had a phenomenal cast; Murray, Ramis, Aykroyd and Hudson combined to make the best comedic team that fought ghosts even in cinema history. Fast forward nearly thirty years and you've got the re-release of the Blu-ray and the introduction of a new video game. The best part about the latter? They brought the cast back and the Ramis and Aykroyd penned a story.

[UPDATED: 12:01 PM 5/6/09]
In a bit of a surprise deal, Sony has signed up to publish Ghostbusters: The Video Game - but as Atari clarified at 12:01 PM with their press release to the US media, this news applies to Europe ONLY. In America, Atari will still be publishing title as planned on all major consoles. In Europe, it's set to launch simultaneously with the movie, and we've now got full details on the development.
In short, the PS3/PS2 versions of the title will launch side-by-side with the movie on June 19 in Europe. The PSP version will follow later in Fall 2009. The Xbox 360 version, on the other hand, has been scrapped, but it will still release in North America.
Confused yet?
Check out the full press release below (after the jump) for more details.

I'm not entirely sure, but I seem to vaguely remember being told "don't cross the consoles". Nevertheless, this news posting contains images from both the DS and Wii versions of Ghostbusters: The Video Game. What's the worst that can happen... right?
I suppose if you have trouble differentiating between the screenshots from the two consoles—though you may have some sort of vision-related problem—you can always direct all complaints to:
