When you’ve found a game design that works, sometimes it’s better to simply build on that design rather than constantly reinvent it. Such a conservative approach is especially true for puzzle games, as they’re typically infectious enough as is, and they are extremely resistant to staling. Nintendo’s Dr. Mario Online Rx adopts this approach, with essentially the core of Dr. Mario 64—from the various modes of play to the music and all—coupled with some new multiplayer- and online-centric Wii-inspired features. At 1000 Wii Points ($10), it’s sure to entice any fan of the perdurable NES original.

You may recall the original Super Star Soldier—you know, that top-down ship shooter game that had you curled up and crying in the corner for days thanks to its asinine level of difficulty? Well, the original has been available as a Virtual Console download for some time now, and even though 97% of the world has not completed the game in spite of its relative age, developer Hudson Soft has seen fit to update the franchise with a quick pick-up-and-play version available only through Nintendo’s brand-new WiiWare games download service.
