I think we've all played our fair share of bad Wii games by now. A system with so much potential is riddled with software that just makes you shake your head in disbelief. But, as they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure. I'm not saying Just Dance is trash, but well, it's close. I hate to be that harsh, but some efforts need the brutal truth. Let's get this over with...

Just...Yeah.

The concept of Just Dance is to allow up to four players to dance to popular songs by mimicking the motions of a professional dancer on screen. Each player uses a Wiimote and nothing else. It's all about the motion control, no buttons to be pressed -- just follow the on screen motions.

Here's the complete track list:

Acceptable in the 80's – Calvin Harris
A Little Less Conversation – Elvis Presley
Bebe – Divine Brown
Can't Get You Out of My Head – Kylie Minogue
Cotton Eye Joe – Rednex
Hot n' Cold – Katy Perry
Dare – Gorillaz
Eye of the Tiger – Survivor (Rocky)
Fame – In the style of Irene Cara (cover)
Funplex CSS – The B 52's
Girls and Boys – Blur
Girls Just Want to Have Fun – Cindi Lauper
Groove is in the Heart – Dee-Lite
Heart of Glass – Blondie
I Get Around – The Beach Boys
I Like to Move it – Reel To Real
Jerk it Out – Caesars
Jin Go Lo Ba – Fat Boy Slim
Kids in America – Kim Wilde
Le Freak – Chic
Louie Louie – Iggy Pop
Lump – The Presidents Of The USA
Mashed Potato Time – Dee Dee Sharp
Pump up the Jam – Technotronic
Ring My Bell – Anita Ward
Step by Step – New Kids On The Block
Surfin' Bird – The Trashmen
That's the Way (I Like it) – Kc & The Sunshine Band
U Can't Touch This – MC Hammer
Wannabe – The Spice Girls
Who Let the Dogs Out? – Baha Men
Womanizer – In the style of Britney Spears (cover)

Each track can be played in full or you can select the 'short' version which fades out after about a minute. Regardless, it isn't fun and it only highlights, again, how bad Wii games can be when they aren't properly developed. You know that gut feeling you get when you see a game's main menu? It's no way to judge a game, but sometimes you just know that a game is going to be bad just by looking at its menu. That's the feeling I got with Just Dance. The menu design is boring and wasn't encouraging at all. Options include Quick Game, Tournament, Warm Up, Extras, and Options.

Tournament sounds like it might have some depth or some kind of complexity to it, but it really doesn't. Players simply select how many songs they want to play and then you can either choose the songs yourself or let the game choose. Warm Up mode is really unnecessary; if you can't perform these basic motions without a warm up, you may not even want to continue playing. The Extras menu includes the 'tutorial,' which is eight still images that are also in the manual that describe everything about the game. You can also see your progress on each song and other stats. Finally, you can toggle the on screen lyrics and pictograms (the icons that scroll by indicating the next dance move).

Game Modes include these three: Classic, Last One Standing, and Strike A Pose. In Classic, you simply dance around and build up your meter with points. The game tracks the Wiimote for accuracy and speed, and scores you based a simple scale of "X, Ok, and Great." Not surprisingly, the motion sensing is hit and miss and almost a total joke. Getting multiple Greats in a row yields bonus combo points. Last One Standing gives each player seven lives. A life is lost each time you do a wrong move, but you can earn a life back by executing five Greats in a row. Finally, Strike A Pose requires that you watch for a red light or green light on your points bar; when red, you must freeze your position and when green, you can move again. If you move during red, you lose a lot of points.

And that's all that's going on here. To the summary...

Just Dance is really an awful game that should be avoided. If you like dancing and waving your arms around, there are a lot better ways to spend $40.

Videogames

Gameplay It's awful. Not only does it not work well, it's pointless.
Presentation Bland menus and very basic graphics in general. You get thirty-plus songs which you will likely never play all of.
Value $40? No way, no how.
Fun Factor Maybe with friends it'd be... nah. You can't help but feel like a total goofball playing this.

I think he has missed the point
I think he has missed the point somewhat. You are meant to look a fool playing this game!! Its a fun party game for when real people come around to your house. in the UK this game retails at £17.99 best price and so is perfect for that - only going to play a few times but brill to get out when the friends are around genre. I agree that DLC and a more extensive tracklist would be good but at least the ones that are there are good!!

It's actually a pretty fun game!
The point of the game isn't really progression or perfection. It's just about gathering with some friends and dancing, all while looking like a fool. It's pretty fun for people like me who aren't into extensive gaming. I wish the scoring was better and I wish that the game picked up the moves more accurately. Sometimes it misses the fact that you're doing exactly what the screen is doing, so it makes your score go down. Especially if you're holding the remote wrong. A more extensive track listing would also be good, especially if you could download the tracks like you can for guitar hero or other games in that genre. Overall, it's a fun party game that works up a good sweat.

Better than 2/10 !
Concur with the comments above, not for the sickly pale hardcore gamer stuck in his mother's basement: then again the question would be WHY DID YOU BUY A WII in the first place?

What this game lacks is support for Wii motion plus not to mention some sort of dance mat accessory. The other issue with any dance game is the nunchuck cable is always always too short!

lol...
"then again the question would be WHY DID YOU BUY A WII in the first place?" So this is the Wii's killer app in your opinion? Wow.

This "game" lacks a hell of a lot more than WMP support...

There's better party games out there.
Personally, I think you're a fool if you spend 40 bucks on this title.

A bargain bin title at half the price at very least. Admittedly, this doesn't look like a game I'd enjoy either but I'm not opposed to trying new things.

The track list to me is just filled with tacky one hit pop wonders. Another reason to stay far, far away...

I can think of a lot better ways to spend 40 dollars on with my friends.

This is the best, but not for core-gamers
I love this game, as well as my wife.
we are not gamers, I don't like Mario games, I can't play Rock Band, and I hate COD.
but we, non-gamers also have right to play games! and we are usually the people who can decide which game a family can buy.
I think from my point, core-gamers can understand why this game gets so low score by almost all the gamer web sites, but still beat COD off the top.
I gave this game a score 9, and, for sure, I bought it!

Excellent perspective, Fred.

It's interesting that CoD was knocked off because of this game, but to each their own. :)

There will be sweat...!!!
Agree with the others who've posted that this is NOT intended for the sedentary gamer... For the Wii Fit fans out there looking for titles that will get them up off of their haunches and sweating, however, this is one of the best exercise games I've played. It is a cleverly disguised aerobics workout and well worth the $40 dollar price tag! (CONS) The game is not sensitive enough to your actual movements, which can get extremely aggravating (especially if you're a sore loser, lol).
